Texas State Seal
Lone Star State
Texas is called the Lone Star State because of the design of the state flag: a broad vertical blue stripe at left,
centered by a single white star, with horizontal bars of white and red on the right. The red means
courage, the white means liberty and the blue stands for loyalty. The star has five points, one
for each letter of the state's name.
 Pledge to the
Texas Flag "Honor the Texas Flag. I pledge allegiance to thee. Texas, one and
indivisible." State Song: Texas Our Texas The music was
written by the late William J. Marsh, and the words by Marsh and Gladys Yoakum Wright, both of
Fort Worth. It was adopted in 1929.

Texas, our Texas! All hail the mighty State! Texas, our Texas! So wonderful,
so great! Boldest and grandest, withstanding every test; O empire wide and glorious, you
stand supremely best.
(Chorus) God bless you, Texas! And keep you brave and strong.
That you may grow in power and worth, throughout the ages long. Texas, O Texas! Your freeborn
single star, Sends out its radiance to nations near and far. Emblem of freedom! It sets
our hearts aglow With thoughts of San Jacinto and glorious Alamo.
Texas, dear Texas!
From tyrant grip now free, Shines forth in splendor your star of destiny! Mother of
Heroes! We come your children true Proclaiming our allegiance, our faith, our love for
you.
