Texas Musicians Museum - Tribute to "The Day the Music Died"

Buddy Holly

Location: Texas Musicians Museum
Price: $10-15, plus FREE music every Saturday evening
When: January 26-February 13

I'm a west Texas girl from Lubbock, so each time I hear the name Buddy Holly, my ears perk up. I grew up learning about this guy and listening to his songs. So if you're a lover of music in general, you have to come to the Texas Musicians Museum to check out pieces of history during this tribute. The guys at TMM are doing a rocking job of preserving Texas music history and it's really fun to see.

"The Day the Music Died," will be in tribute to Texans Buddy Holly and Jiles Perry Richardson “The Big Bopper." They'll have an array of incredible items on display including stage clothing, documents, artifacts, images and interviews from the past about that tragic day and the lives and music of these great musicians. The most unusual piece of rock 'n roll history will also be on display - the Big Boppers casket he was buried in after the plane crash. If you're like me, you just said, "WHAT?" I guess if we want to know the full story we'll have to go down there and learn more.

Enjoy live music this Saturday from Hula and the Whodoos with special guest KM Williams and his classic southern blues.  Hula will also perform some cool versions of Buddy Holly and Big Bopper songs in tribute to these legends. Learn More

Family Movie Matinee - Secret of the Wings

Secret of the Wings

Location: Irving Public Library Valley Ranch

When: Saturday, 2-4 p.m.

Grab the kids and get out of the house this Saturday. Come catch a movie at the Irving Public Library at Valley Ranch. All movies are family-friendly and this weekend they'll be showing Secret of the Wings (G). An adorable tale of Tinker Bell, Periwinkle and friends who venture into the winter woods to find the secret of fairy wings.

While you're there be sure to stop in a Java Me Up. I love their drinks and snacks. It's a great place for a Mommy break. You can order your items straight from a window in the library. Not too shabby! Learn More
