The Dallas Stars are an American professional ice hockey team based in Dallas. They are members of the Central Division of the Western Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). The team was founded during the 1967 NHL expansion as the Minnesota North Stars, based in Bloomington, Minnesota. Since their arrival in 1993, the Dallas Stars have been one of the most successful sports franchises in Dallas, making 12 playoff appearances during that span – tied for the most in the city along with the Mavericks. Even though many weren’t sure how the Stars would fare in this nontraditional hockey market, the Stars have prospered and helped usher in hockey into the south.
The Stars games are held at the American Airlines Center. Since opening in July 2001, the American Airlines Center has set a new standard for sports and entertainment and has become the premier venue of the South.
