A Trip to South America Irving-style

Friday, February 24, 2017 1:00 PM by Carol Stoddard

Jump into your brand new 2017 Imagination and follow me on a trip to the other side of the Americas.  Just south of Mexico lies a myriad of new tastes and sights and sounds.  Imagine the call of a macaw, pan pipes playing in the distance, and a cuica's beat that matches the cadence of ocean waves kissing the shore. And now you have arrived, because you need to look no further than the Four Seasons Resort and Spa, Villa's Brazilian Grill, Empa Mundo and Tio Carlos Mexican Latin Grill.  Prepare your taste buds and join me for a trip through the beautiful south.

Before Rosa was Claudette

Friday, February 17, 2017 3:00 PM by Carol Stoddard

Few people know the story of Claudette Colvin. In 1955, when she was 15, she refused to move to the back of the bus and give up her seat to a white person — nine months before Rosa Parks did the very same thing. Most people know about Parks and the Montgomery bus boycott, but few know that there were a number of women who refused to give up their seats on the same bus system. Most of the women were quietly fined, and no one heard much more.  Colvin was the first to really challenge the law. Join us in celebrating Black History Month and learn more about this brave young lady.
