Call me a romantic but I think that love is the best part of living, and one of the best times in our lives is when we’re falling in love.  So I’m here to help you romance your sweetie.  We are richly blessed with the variety of restaurants, parks, shops, and you name it, right here in our own backyard.  I've listed below a few of my recommendations for this weekend.  Read on and see if anything tickles your fancy.

Mingle with the boldest and bravest of foodies and the hottest celebrity chefs.  Sample fiery sauce, salsas, even chocolates and learn how to use them in recipes and remedies.  Watch an Atomic Wing Eating Contest, Puckerbutt's Jalapeno Eating Contest or attend a bonafide Pig Roast.  You can do all of this and more this weekend here in Irving.  For additional area events, log onto our website at

I am just blown away by the long list of events happening here this weekend.  There’s hiking, music, live theater, sports and more.  It just goes to show you that when looking for your heart's desire, you don't need to look further than your own back yard.  Because everyone knows, there's no place like Irving.  For additional events in Irving and the surrounding area, visit our website at

A King of Men Jan 13-15

Friday, January 13, 2017 3:00 PM by Carol Stoddard

Why is it important to remember the great leaders in our lifetime?  People come and go like shooting stars – shining with a burst of fury while they’re with us, and slowly fade away from memory.  Why then, after almost 50 years after his death, do we still hold Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. up as one of America’s great leaders?  This MLK Day weekend, there are two observances of his amazing life and legacy that will give you a glimpse into the answer to this question.  Both events are free and open to the public.  For additional area events, visit our webpage at

Take a birthday bash that lasts for two days, throw in an Elvis sighting, add a party with a bunch of penguins, and what do you get?  It's a recipe for another fun-filled weekend here in Irving.  Although the weather's not cooperating very well tonight, Saturday and Sunday should be in the 40's.  So go out, get a bite to eat, attend a birthday or penguin party (your preference), and be sure to catch a glimpse of Elvis. LET'S ROCK THIS NEW YEAR!!  For a full list of events in Irving and around the area, visit our website at

Happy New Year! Dec 30 - Jan 1

Friday, December 30, 2016 5:00 PM by Carol Stoddard

Happy New Year y'all!  Whatever 2016 has meant to you, I hope that 2017 brings even more fun, love and happiness. With everything that happened in 2016, I sure learned a lot! Most of all, I learned that Irving has some really great restaurants. In all four corners of the city you can find something for everyone.  Check out our restaurant list and see for yourself.  And as for 2017, I hope to learn more about The Music Factory, the entertainment complex which is being built right next door to our offices here at the Irving Convention Center.  I get to watch its progress every day.  It's so exciting to see steel beams built higher and higher, and to hear the sounds of construction machinery hard at work.  And then there's Water Street, a mixed-use development being built across the street from The Mustang Museum at Williams Square.  It sure is an exciting time to live and work in Irving.  While you're celebrating the upcoming year, you might want to visit these Irving events I've listed below.  For additional area events, check out our Visit Irving event page.

More to Explore!

I admit it.  I am a history junkie.  Show me a busy road and I will show you where pioneers once blazed rough trails with their entire world inside a covered wagon.  Show me an old house and I will tell you a fantastic story of a family's history with memories and traditions.  I have lived in this area most of my life but I still love to explore new places. If you also fancy an adventure, you should plan a day out visiting Irving's museums. Most of them are free and they provide a vast array of this area's history.  Hop aboard my cyberwagon and I'll take you back to where Irving began.

Other area events await your arrival too, just visit our website's event page.

This Week's Exit, Stage Left

Friday, November 4, 2016 11:00 AM by Carol Stoddard

The relatively peaceful process of changing political leaders in our great nation began this week, and what better way to celebrate the end of early voting than with guns, girls, gossip and All That Jazz?  Yep. I am talking about CHICAGO, THE MUSICAL.  I hear it's the #1 longest-running American musical in Broadway history.  Travel back to the roaring 20's where chorus girl Roxie Hart murders her lover and convinces her hapless husband Amos to take the rap…until Amos finds out he’s been duped and turns on Roxie. Roxie gets sent to the pen and while waiting on death row, she and another “Merry Murderess” Velma Kelly, vie for the spotlight and the headlines.  Neither woman will be outdone in their fight against each other and the public for fame and celebrity . . . and acquittal.  The musical begins this weekend and runs through November 19.
