While it's very tempting to just relax at home and binge on our favorite shows (and our favorite snacks), now is the best time to start or maintain a physical health regime. These days, with fewer shopping trips and working from home, we've gained more time to take care of ourselves, to get outdoors and be active. Deep down we all know that a healthy body is a happy body, and that nothing tastes as good as being fit feels. So with our moderate days and cool evenings, now is the perfect time to start exploring the many trails and nature parks found all over Irving. Grab your favorite fall jacket, sneakers, and let’s hit the trails!

National Red Wine Day

Friday, August 28, 2020 1:00 PM by Chelsea Bilbia

Today marks National Red Wine Day! A truly special day for all us wine lovers, you’re sure to see me with a glass in one hand and a bottle in the other today. Red wine can elevate any dinner, happy hour, or movie night at home. With so many red grape varietals, you can find the perfect bottle to match your taste preferences. Some of the big names we all know and love, such as cabernet sauvignon, pinot noir, merlot, and zinfandel can be found on most all wine lists and wine aisles. While those are tried and trued choices, maybe this National Red Wine Day, step out of your comfort zone and try a new varietal or blend to say “Cheers!” Syrah, Sangiovese, Malbec, Grenache, and Tempranillo are some great options to help open up your palate to new vineyards or regions. No matter the grape, red wine will always be the perfect complement to steaks, pizzas, cheese plates, and all things chocolate. Try these incredible spots in Irving this National Red Wine Day for amazing wines and food!

One of my favorite summertime activities is to visit our local museums and art galleries. Experiencing culture, fine arts, and history in a peaceful and thought-provoking setting satisfies my need for adventure. Unfortunately, this year has brought us social distancing and limited indoor activities instead. If you're like me during these times, you're choosing patios over dining rooms and outdoor workouts over indoor gyms.

So what are we to do when we want to see local art in Irving while remaining outdoors? Luckily, Irving is chock-full of incredible outdoor sculptures and art installations to get us through until we can fully enjoy the likes of the Irving Arts Center halls and Irving Archives exhibits; both of which are actually offering virtual tours so be sure to check those out.
