Ah, September in Texas . . . hints of cooler weather while sipping a warm pumpkin spice latte. It's a time for renewing the school year and bidding farewell to summer vacation. Let's toss those pumpkin seeds in the fall garden, with some marigolds and chrysanthemums, and watch them grow. I must caution you, though. Make sure you're not planting "The Bad Seed," like Christine Penmark in this month's psychological thriller performed at the Irving Arts Center. From a perfect home full of love and family, to a recurring nightmare and tragic events, Christine was unaware of her bad seed until it was too late. You'll want to plant yourself in your seat until the very suspenseful end of the play. In the meantime, check out these top five standout events in September.
Since childhood, Christine Penmark has suffered from a terrible, recurring nightmare. Then mysteriously, her daughter's classmate tragically drowns at a picnic. Who knows the truth about this untimely event? Christine? Her daughter? Or perhaps her father? Bad Seed will be performed in the Dupree Theater at the Irving Arts Center from Sept. 10 - 25. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. on Thursday-Saturday and 2:30 p.m. on Sunday. Ticket prices are $22 - $29. You can purchase tickets here.
Have you visited the Irving Arts Center lately? It is one of Irving's little jewels, bringing live performances to the stage through plays, music, dance and much more. Visit the art exhibits which rotate throughout the year, or stroll through the outdoor sculpture garden with serene water features. There's something here for everyone.
IN THE SPOTLIGHT
Visit the gritty authenticity of East Texas at The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory this month with Whiskey Myers. Featured in Kevin Costner's TV series Yellowstone in 2018 and after touring world-wide, they bring their songs to The Pavilion here in Irving, Texas with a cohesive sound rooted in our rich, red dirt. With a Southern Rock rowdiness and renegade genre-crossing vibe, they've built a musical career being themselves - because they are just that good.
