Why be a jet setter when you can do some day tripping right here in Irving and still enjoy the same experiences? The world is waiting for you just around the corner - from food, music, people and events - you can savor it all. This weekend is packed full so hop on board with these suggestions and travel the globe in just two short days. Of course there's always more in store when you visit our website at www.irvingtexas.com.

JAPAN

I'm starting with Little Katana because it is just right around the corner from my office. In fact, at the corner of North MacArthur and Royal, it's just a hop, skip and a pair of chop sticks away from your office too. They serve fresh Japanese sushi and sashimi, with many other lunch entrees around $8 and original dinner choices between $10 to $30, depending on your appetite.  There are so many unique options to choose from, but their Crispy Brussel Sprouts and The Papa Roll are two of my favorites.  Also, call to check out the nights when they have half-priced bottles of wine or sake.

ENGLAND

Stoneleighs

The Music of Britain played by The Stoneleighs will lure you to The Texas Lottery Plaza at Toyota Music Factory for a free concert on Saturday, July 21, from 5:30 - 10:30 pm. Touted as "THE" Rolling Stones Tribute band, The Stoneleighs will warm up the concert crowd outdoors before Foreigner takes the stage in The Pavilion inside at 7 pm. Tickets are still available for The Juke Box Heroes Tour featuring Foreigner, Whitesnake and Jason Bonham's Led Zeppelin Evening. Tickets range from $45 to $350+.

ARGENTINA

Empa Mundo

Whether you're hungry for just a snack or a big helping of Criollo, drop on by Empa Mundo for a taste directly from Buenes Aires.  Owner Raul Gordon offers a variety of empañada flavors including Texas beef brisket, spinach and cheese, and even banana and Nutella®.  With 18 different fillings, you can enjoy an entire meal and dessert either inside the restaurant or to go.  However, if you pick up an order to go, always get extra. They're just too irresistible not to eat one (or two) on the way home.

MEXICO

Coco

The whole family can enjoy this newest offering from the Alamo Drafthouse.  On Sunday, July 22 at 8 pm, round up your friends and family (pets too!) and bring a blanket or chair for a FREE movie shown outdoors at the Texas Lottery Plaza. This Sunday will feature Coco by Pixar and Disney, where a 12-year-old boy, Miguel, is accidentally transported to the Land of the Dead and seeks the help of his deceased musician great-great-grandfather to return him to his family among the living. While you're there, stop by one of the restaurants at the Toyota Music Factory for dinner. Or you can cool off with a treat from TCBY, Freshii, Top Round Roast Beef or Pop Factory.
