Guess what’s coming up this weekend? If Mother’s Day wasn’t the first thing that came to mind, then have we got some help for you! Being a mommy is hard. Mommies won’t tell you that they stayed up until midnight finishing that project you started, or the time they skipped an important meeting to bring you a forgotten lunch box. And that’s just for their husbands. So love on the mom in your family and bring everyone to Irving for lunch, brunch or dinner this Sunday. Sure, you may have your favorite regular places, but that’s just boring. Be adventurous and take mom to meet a foreign family, a family of ethnic restaurants right here in Irving. Who knows, it may become your new favorite place.
Remember . . . reservations are always recommended.
1. Shanghai, China – Fortune House
Growing up in Shanghai, owner Lucy Yong developed a keen taste for the robust flavor of Asian cuisine. After moving to Dallas, Yong felt a culinary homesickness for her native food . . . that is until she opened Fortune House in North Irving. The large and elaborate menu has plenty of American-style Chinese food, but the real fun lies in their “Shanghai Flavor” menu, a menu insert filled with adventurous sharable plates. Gorgeous views and attentive staff round out this succulent trip to the Orient. 8150 N. MacArthur Blvd. (972) 831-9888
2. Southern Brazil (Gaucho Country) – Villa’s Grill
If you’re looking for a grand restaurant with small portions and high prices to take your mom for Mother’s Day, this is not the place. But if it’s meat she craves, Villa’s Grill is a winner. Alex Cunha and his family opened Villa’s Grill nine years ago in the middle of historic Downtown Irving, after moving to Texas from the cattle country in southern Brazil, near Argentina. The Cunha’s secret is their churrasqueira, a custom grill that slowly cooks meat to perfection. Beef, pork, sausage and chicken are all carved table side while you enjoy a large selection on the salad bar. After dinner, take a bite of Brazil with their grilled cinnamon pineapple. Ask for Alex’s son and Restaurant Manager, Lucas Cunha. Mother’s Day Special is all you can eat for $29.99. 137 S. Main Street (972) 259-2939
3. Athens, Greece – Andalous Mediterranean Grill
Although the menu items come from all over the Mediterranean, twin chefs, Sam and Wassim, have spent years perfecting their mother’s Greek recipes at Andalous Mediterranean Grill. You’ll think you’re dining in ancient Sparta when you taste their gourmet meals such as Mediterranean style lamb shank, steak kabobs, or Maj-noon chicken. The entire menu is fresh and flavorful, brimming with Mediterranean delights. As the chefs say, “Here at Andalous, every day is Mother’s Day with something special prepared just for her.” 6450 N. MacArthur Blvd. (972) 401-8900
4. Amalfi Coast, Italy – iFratelli’s Ristorante and Wine Bar
Founded in 1987 by “the brothers” – George, David, Mike and Darrell Cole – i Fratelli’s is a warm and casual place serving old Italian favorites, such as Chicken Parmigiana, Lasagna, and Fettuccine Alfredo. Recently crowned the Prince of Pies by D Magazine, i Fratelli’s creates pizzas famous for their distinctive thin-n-crispy crust. Want to know their secret? They use fresh ingredients and family recipes which are handmade in small batches. Sail your family on over to i Fratelli’s and see what the rest of DFW knows - they’re the best. Mother’s Day special is $24.99 for adults and $9.99 for children. 4020 N. MacArthur Blvd. (972) 541-1000
5. Mexico – Via Real
Since 1985, owner Fran Mathers, has served her guests the foods she loves - authentic Mexican entrees, Santa Fe style. From the beginning, she wanted to offer a fine dining experience with the fresh and unique tastes of Southwestern Cuisine. That’s why she says, “When you enter Via Real, you’re a guest in our home.” Items like Chilean Sea Bass, Adobo Shrimp & Crab Enchiladas, and Pork Tenderloin Fajitas keep her guests coming back time and again. Treat your family at their family’s table and give your Mother the gift she absolutely deserves. Mother’s Day special is $45 for adults, $13 for children. 4020 N. MacArthur Blvd. #100 (972) 650-9001
