"What are you doing this weekend?" A question everyone starts asking on Friday afternoon. Well, here are a few suggestions to get you up and out of the house. Don't let the rainy weather keep you down, there's still plenty to do. Plan out your free time with these great suggestions happening in Irving! We've got lots to entertain you...choose from food, a celebrity book signing, wrestling and/or the arts.
TASTE OF IRVING
Location: Cimarron Park Recreation Center, 199 Red River Trail
Price: Free event, $5 or less for samples
When: Saturday, May 15; Noon - 6 p.m.
Taste of Irving has moved to Cimarron Park Recreation Center, both inside and in the parking lot, due to wet park grounds. Festival hours and entertainment remains the same. The event will be from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free, and attendees are invited to park for free at Ranchview High School, 8401 E. Valley Ranch Parkway. Shuttles will be provided at no cost and will operate from 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
More than 20 restaurants will serve samples of their cuisine including Indian, Mexican, BBQ, American, Japanese and Southern foods. All food samples will cost $5 or less. There will be a Wing Town Fiery Heat Challenge and also culinary demonstrations.
Other activities include a fun zone with rides and attractions for children, live music and a large craft marketplace. The following bands will perform on the Valley Ranch Association Main Stage:
- Northern National, 12:30 to 2 p.m.
- The Texas Gypsies, 2:30 to 4 p.m.
- Brave Combo, 4 to 6 p.m.
A tent will be provided in front of the stage for both shade and rain cover. The Fun Zone has been moved to the rec center gymnasium, featuring inflatables, balloons and more. The Culinary Stage will be located inside the rec center’s multipurpose room. Learn More
RICHARD RAWLINGS, STAR OF FAST N' LOUD, BOOK SIGNING (POSTPONED!)

POSTPONED - PLEASE STAY TUNED FOR A NEW DATE AND TIME. A hop and a jump from Irving, sits a hot rod shop called Gas Monkey Garage. You've probably heard of it from the hit show on Discovery, Fast N' Loud, staring Richard Rawlings and Aaron Kaufman. They take old cars and flip them for a profit, while entertaining a lot of fans in between.
With every star there's always a back story, and Richard Rawlings is no exception. Fans now get a chance to see what makes him tick in his new autobiography, Fast N’ Loud: Blood, Sweat and Beers ($25.99), which hits shelves this week. He's kicking off a local DFW book tour before he hits the road nationwide. USA WOMEN'S BODY BAR WRESTLING & STATE GRECO ROMAN/FREESTYLE WRESTLING TOURNAMENT
Location: Irving Convention Center at Las Colinas
Price: $10 daily, $5 parking
When: Saturday, May 16 & Sunday, May 17, 8 a.m. - 8 p.m.
Did you know, Freestyle and Greco Roman are the only Wrestling done in the Olympic Games? This weekend at the Irving Convention Center there's going to be a lot of wrestling going on! Possibly even future USA Wrestling Olympians. For many of these competitors, their goal is to go on and represent team USA.
