Ahhh, the cheeseburger... it’s essential at backyard barbecues and tailgate parties, and it’s the official sandwich in Paradise.  Plus, it celebrated with its own day. Personally, I’ve never met a cheeseburger I didn’t like. So please allow me to introduce you to some classics, local faves, the fancies, the dives and some hidden gems you’ll be delighted to discover as we celebrate National Cheeseburger Day in Irving. Let’s dive in!

A-1 Burger - Arguably the Best

3701 Esters Rd | 972.252.1040 | Takeout only

According to local foodie, Mark McKee, A-1 Burger is arguably the best burger in town. It’s an unconventional spot that serves both burgers and traditional Indian-Pakistani cuisine. McKee likes the A-1 Double with the works (above) weighing in at 1 lb, stating, “I've had their Biryani and Gyros, spectacular as well. **but the burgers, oh my** I've been singing their praises for years, so get over there and see what you're missing, or, if you've been before, give them some love in these down times. Eat well and have fun, my friends!” Well done! Order online

Tasty Texas Matchup at Aunt Cissy’s Kitchen

2824 N. O’Conner Rd | 469.594.7355

Aunt Cissy’s is celebrating the day by giving a $5 gift certificate to be used on a future order when you buy any two burgers. Might I suggest you get one of each of the Texas Two-step(1/2 lb. Certified Angus beef burger on garlic toast topped with cheddar cheese, onion ring, lettuce, tomato, pickle and jalapeno cream gravy) and the Cowboy Burger (2 lb. Certified Angus beef burger topped with roasted poblano peppers, cheddar cheese, fried onions, BBQ sauce, lettuce, tomato and aioli.) The Cowboy Burger is pictured above!

Head to Bar Louie for an All-Nighter

At Bar Louie eggs aren’t just for the morning! Enjoy the @barlouie All-Nighter burger all day (or all night). Don’t eat meat? You don’t have to face this holiday with FOMO. Check out the Vegan Impossible Burger. Can’t make it today? Bar Louie features $5 burgers on Tuesdays.

Eyes on the Fries at Big State Fountain Grill

100 E Irving Blvd | 214.307.5000

Big State serves up nine “Dang Good Burgers” to choose from  including a Big State Chili Cheeseburger, The Rockey Burger served on Texas toast and the Goose Combo Burger - a Big State Cheeseburger with a grilled hot link on top. The tots are top notch, but IMO Big State has the best loaded cheese fries EVER.  I prefer to skip the chili, add bacon and order extra ranch for dipping! Can’t get there today? On Thursdays, they offer Westway Ford Burger Plate (cheeseburger and chips) for $5.95.

Burger Island for the Burger Buffs

2500 N. story Rd | 972.255.0154 | Takeout only

Burger Island is a no-frills joint serving hefty burgers with a variety of toppings, plus skin-on fries. The two most popular burgers are The Big Island (sauteed onions, mushrooms, jalapenos, American & Provolone cheese, mayo, mustard, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles) and the Jungle Burger (all of the above plus bell peppers, ketchup, hickory sauce and bacon). For a fun twist, try the Hawaiian with ham and pineapple or the Pizza Burger with provolone, grilled onions and, of course. marinara. Order on Grubhub.

All Signs Point to Griff’s Hamburgers for a Drive Thru Memory Lane

718 E Irving Blvd | 972.579.7651

Griff’s Hamburgers has been a staple in Irving since 1960. Famous for the buildings A-frame design, and of course, their Giant singles, doubles and triples! Double or triple th foodie fun with add-ons like mushrooms, jalapenos, pepper jack, chili, bacon and a “pile of cheddar!” Now that sounds like a perfect tribute to the cheeseburger.
