Labor Day weekend is finally here, ready to close the book on another fun summer in Irving, Texas. Well, not so fast there Bub because the weather is still in the high 90's, so you can't really say that summer's over. Nevertheless, just what do you do with three days of great Texas weather? Yeah, I can see that honey-do list growing as we speak. Between the trips to the hardware store and washing your car after cleaning out the garage, I have a few alternatives for you. Take a look at these events and be glad I got you out of the house. And for more ideas, you should visit our other blogs to see what's cooking - or our website at

2001: A Space Odyssey 4K Restoration

WHEN: Fri, Sept 1 - Thu, Sept 6
TIME:  Varies by date
WHERE: Alamo Drafthouse
COST:  Just under $10

Why am I excited about 2001: A Space Odyssey - a futuristic movie made back in 1968? My sister asked me this question too because I was hyperventilating when I told her about it. First of all, the restoration was painstakingly created from the original analog film and transformed into stunning 4K - twice the resolution of the average digital projection experience.  Secondly, its special effects are timeless. This movie is not only what Stanley Kubrick imagined 50 years ago that it would be like in the year 2001, and it's not just about the awesome opening music, but it's a sensory-rich portrayal of the anxiety humans have imagined since the beginning of the technology age. It's a film you have to see, and you'll never look at your computer the same.

Okay, now you can start on that honey-do list. Afterward, treat yourself to one of Irving's great restaurants. Be sure to tag us if you post any photos - #VisitIrving @VisitIrvingTx. Have a happy and safe Labor Day weekend!
