While Asian food is my favorite year-round, with these chilly winter months, there is nothing better than enjoying a hot bowl of noodles or juicy dumplings. Irving has an incredible selection of authentic Asian cuisines and I have made a list of the top five chopstick-worthy dishes. From Thai to Chinese, these dishes are close to my heart and made from the heart by the amazing restaurants we have here in Irving. Place your online orders or venture out for a dining experience and let’s all raise our chopsticks to the best our city has to offer!

1. Soup Dumplings from Fortune House Chinese Cuisine

8150 N MacArthur Blvd #190

If you have not visited Fortune House yet, do yourself a favor and go right now! Also known as Xiao Long Bao, soup dumplings from Fortune House are intricately folded with dough made fresh daily and are packed with fresh ingredients by their Dim Sum chef. Choose between pork, pork and crab, or pan-fried pork soup dumplings. Pro tip: order them all, you will not regret it! Fortune House also offers a wide variety of non-soup dumplings, appetizers, and entrees.

2. Pad Thai from Yummy Thai

6421 Riverside Dr #150

Always a classic comfort food dish, Pad Thai from Yummy Thai is a must! Whether dine-in, take-out, or delivery, Yummy Thai offers consistently delicious Thai dishes with a large menu to feed the whole family. I deem Yummy Thai’s Pad Thai “Chopstick-Worthy” for its authentic flavors that always hits the spot and a generous portion size that will allow you to enjoy this amazing noodle dish for two (or more) meals. Pad Thai consists of stir-fried rice noodles with bean sprouts, egg, green onion, ground peanut, garlic, fish sauce and sliced lime. My preferred protein addition is chicken, but you can also add tofu, vegetables, pork, beef, shrimp, or a seafood mix. YUMMY!

3. Sushi from The Blue Fish

320 West Las Colinas Boulevard #110

There isn't a day that goes by when I don't crave a fresh sushi roll, and The Blue Fish at Toyota Music Factory is definitely a favorite spot in Irving to satisfy that craving. Their location off John Carpenter Fwy has closed, but the brand-new location at Toyota Music Factory is a beautiful place to enjoy all your favorite rolls and sashimi. My “must orders” include the Rainforest Roll and Tuna Belly Sashimi. You really cannot go wrong with anything The Blue Fish offers, so grab your chopsticks and dive in!

While this is my go-to summer dish, poke bowls are just as amazing in winter and all year round. Visit Go Fish Poke on Water Street and build the most delish creations of fresh fish, vegetables, and crispy toppings. Choose from tuna, salmon, red snapper, scallops, shrimp, or tofu for those wanting meatless protein. Go Fish Poke also has a great menu of signature bowls to take the guesswork out of ordering. My perfect bowl consists of ahi tuna + ½ rice ½ salad + cucumber + sweet onions + edamame + watermelon radish + avocado + mango sauce. Okay, I just placed my order and I'm on my way to get it now! Hope you are doing the same!

When they say “everything is bigger in Texas,” that includes dishes like the incredible Beef Rib Pho from Sapp Sapp in the Historic Heritage Crossing District for Thai and Laos recipes from the heart. Grab your chopsticks and a very large spoon to tackle this flavor-packed noodle soup. Other favorites include the Papaya Salad and Drunken Noodles. Really, you can’t go wrong with meals as authentic and delicious from the wonderful people at Sapp Sapp.
