One Last Weekend

Thursday, August 16, 2018 1:00 PM by Carol Stoddard

Goodbye Summer my old friend. Our time together has to end. Another school year is starting. Summer faded while I was sleeping.  And a vision of the pool is all that's left in my brain, it still remains, I've got another year of homework.

My apologies to Simon and Garfunkel for stealing their song, but I know it's how we all feel.  We want just one more weekend of summer vacation before we head back to school on Monday. Wait, we DO have one more weekend. So let's make the most of it. Listed below are several events that will help to ease the end of summer and welcome the beginning of a new school year here in Irving, Texas.  For more area events, please visit our website at www.irvingtexas.com.

Live Music in Irving, Texas: July 2018

Sunday, July 1, 2018 1:00 PM by Visit Irving

Take a musical journey through the decades with the live music acts hitting the stages across Irving in July. From ‘70s classic rock to ‘80s powerhouses, ‘90s grunge stars to ‘00s hit makers, there are opportunities aplenty to experience a still-fresh blast from the past. Acts of the moment make appearances too, for a month of music so cool it’ll help you fend off the summer heat.

As we’re going deep into spring, when rainy days, flowers, and allergies seem to be taking place almost simultaneously, the idea of doing a Spring Cleaning came to my mind. Not just my house or my closet, but my body too! So when I saw that the new health-conscious restaurant at the Toyota Music Factory complex called Freshii is offering a 1 (Quickie), 3 (Determined), and 5-day (Focused) juice cleanse package, I decided to try it!

This is just in and we (and I, the foodie person that I am) are super pumped to hear that even more great restaurants are ready to feed us! The Toyota Music Factory, who so far has several concepts open including Bar Louie, Thirsty Lion Gastro Pub and Freshii are ready to give the people more food to fill our bellies.

Not sure about you, but I'm totally digging that our backyard keeps expanding. Adding to the latest lineup of culinary experiences is:

  • Boi Na Braza, opening mid-January: A premium Brazilian steak house, Boi Na Braza preserves a

Do you remember as a kid how excited you were on the last day of school?  You could hardly concentrate as you said your goodbyes, talked about what you were doing that summer, or where you were going.  You couldn’t wait for the bell to ring before you bolted out the door, ready to embrace summer like a long lost love.

That excitement can be recaptured right here in your home town of Irving.  This weekend’s line up of events will bring back the sounds, smells and tastes of your childhood summers.  Check out the fun below and be sure to tag us at #visitirving when you post your selfies.

Father's Day Weekend in Irving

Friday, June 17, 2016 5:45 PM by Carol Stoddard

What does your Dad mean to you? It’s a fair enough question. And it’s a simple question really.  How do you feel when you think about your Dad? We asked this question to our male co-workers and received a myriad of answers.  But do you know that when we asked these same men, all of whom are fathers themselves, what they would want most as their Father’s Day gift from their own children, we received the same answer - time spent together with their family. Time spent before the kids grow up and leave.  Time spent while you can still shape their minds and enrich their souls. Time spent with those you love and who love you.  Time is finite; it cannot be replaced.

Now, if your family is like my family, we love to spend time together EATING.  And how fortunate we are that there are so many great restaurants in town from which to choose. To find a restaurant to treat your Dad on Father’s Day, click here. Then to extend your time together, you can also take in a concert or play, or attend any of these events our fine city has to offer.

Just know that a year, even five years from now, he may not remember the wrapped gift you gave him, but he’ll certainly remember the memories you made together.
