The Holiday Extravaganza is a two-part event, featuring a community parade through the Heritage District followed by a tree lighting ceremony outside of Irving City Hall. This annual celebration is a tradition for many Irving families.
The fun will begin at 4 p.m. when the parade winds through the streets of downtown Irving, featuring floats, bands, and community organizations. The theme for the 2017 parade will be "Christmas Movies and Soundtracks." Parade participants can rock their way around the Heritage District in floats inspired by their favorite Christmas movie or song. Spectators can enjoy the traveling cinematic parade experience as floats showcase versions of classic and modern holiday music and movies. At the parade’s conclusion, Santa Claus will make his debut and kick-off the city’s official holiday season.
Immediately following the parade, head to Irving City Hall for the official lighting of the City of Irving's tree! New this year, the MacArthur Middle School Jazz Band will perform on stage after the parade and the tree lightening ceremony. The jazz band will play soulful renditions of popular Christmas songs. The stage also will feature dance performances from Dana’s Dance Academy and Forcher’s Dance Center. The evening’s entertainment will include classic Christmas movie scenes to accompany the musicians and dancers, creating a unique show experience for residents.
Attendees can enjoy free burgers from In-N-Out Burger and complimentary hot chocolate during the performances, while supplies last. The cheerful, family-fun evening will conclude with the lighting of the 30-foot Christmas tree on the lawn of City Hall. A fireworks display will follow.
