Victims and survivors of domestic violence will be remembered Oct. 10 at the return of the Irving Family Advocacy Center’s Illuminate Irving, a free, family friendly event on the Mandalay Canal.
Last year’s inaugural event was created to raise awareness and educate the community about domestic violence, and to provide support and healing for victims. The Irving Police Department and the Family Advocacy Center (FAC), which partner to assist victims, say education and awareness are key to understanding the many forms of domestic violence.
This year’s evening of remembrance and hope will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 10 at 200 E. Las Colinas Blvd., along Irving’s Mandalay Canal, where victims and their families will launch lanterns on the canal’s waters, each bearing the name of a person whose life has been affected by domestic violence.
The FAC seeks participation from the Irving business community to raise awareness of the event. Here are ways Irving businesses and their employees can help:
- Invite employees, friends and family to attend the Oct. 10 ceremony. FAC staff members are available to provide information about domestic violence and personal safety to employees and associates.
- Make a donation to help defray the costs of the event, such as for supplies, food and restrooms.
The Irving FAC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and works in partnership with the Irving Police Department. This event is not a fundraiser for the FAC; all donations go directly to the event. Visit CityofIrving.org/Illuminate for more information.
