The historic Sam Bell Maxey house is located in Paris, Texas. Samuel Bell Maxey was a prominent attorney and was later elected to two terms in the US Senate. He built the house after serving in the Confederate Army rising to the rank of major general. After the war, he was quite active as a lawyer as well as spending a great deal of time in Washington D.C. The house is considered to be a fine example of High Victorian Italianate. Marilda loved their home where they raised their family and hosted many social events and distinguished guests.
All of the furnishings are from the Sam Bell Maxey and Lala Williams Long families from the time they resided in the house. Educational tours are welcomed. The home is open Tuesday - Sunday for tours.
