The Texas Rangers, a MLB club, moved to Arlington in 1971 with their first season beginning in 1972. The team was formerly the Washington Senators. The original Ballpark in Arlington had seating for 35,694. The new ballpark, Globe Life Park, opened in 2004 and has seating for 48,118. The ball club enjoyed a major turnaround in 2004. Former player for the Rangers and Hall of Famer, Nolan Ryan, returned to the Texas Rangers in 2008 as the club President. He was the third Hall of Famer to hold that title in Major League history.
The Rangers advanced to the World Series in 2010 which was a first for the franchise. They went to the World Series again in 2011.
