Don’t let a little drizzle stop you from getting out and about in Irving! There are plenty of Irving rainy day activities to choose from, whether it’s exploring local museums or watching the rain fall from a snug cafe. We’ve pulled together some of our top Irving things to do indoors below.

Irving Arts Center

One of our favorite places to wait out a storm is inside the spacious (and dry) Irving Arts Center. Here, you can spend hours wandering through multiple galleries as you explore exhibits filled with nationally and internationally renowned works of art. This Smithsonian-affiliate truly is the central hub for arts in Irving and makes for an excellent rainy day activity.

Alamo Drafthouse

Few things are better on a rainy day than spending a couple of hours in the shelter of a movie theater. The smell of freshly popped popcorn, the escape of watching a good film, and the luxury of a comfy theater seat are hard to beat. At Alamo Drafthouse, you can expect an extraordinary theater experience: plush seats that you can pick, waiter service during the movie with an expansive menu to choose from, and the newest films to indulge in. Make your next rainy day a movie day.

Trivia Night

If the rain spoiled your other plans, opt for one of Irving’s various trivia nights for drinks, pub grub, and some friendly competition—most even offer fun prizes for winners. On Wednesdays, you can try the Geeks Who Drink event at the Vetted Well inside Alamo Drafthouse. On Fridays, head to the Brains & Beer Trivia Night at Champps Kitchen & Bar. And on the third Monday of every month, you can head to Pub Trivia Night at the Four Seasons Resort & Club where you can flex your trivia knowledge while sipping on half-priced wine.

Jackie Townsell Bear Creek Heritage Center

With three indoor spaces to discover—the J.O. Davis House, the Green House, and a Masonic Lodge—we love the excuse of a rainy day to head to the Jackie Townsell Bear Creek Heritage Center, one of Irving’s prized cultural institutions. Telling the important story of Bear Creek, one of the most established African-American communities in Dallas County, the Heritage Center displays captivating exhibits in an accessible format, perfect for a rainy day. Don’t miss it!

Coffee & More

When it’s raining, sometimes what you need is simple: shelter and something comforting, like a steaming cup of coffee and a slice of pie. Lucky for you, we have a few spots that make for the ultimate rainy day setting.

Dive into Joe’s Coffee Shop for coffee, pie, and much more. Joe’s also boasts full breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus, so any time of day is perfect. Cuppa Espresso Bar offers specialty coffees and fresh baked goods, like decadent cookies, with spots to sit and watch the rain come down. Another local favorite is Big State Fountain Grill. Here, you can tuck into a cozy booth and order up any number of rainy day specialties: a warm bowl of the soup of the day or chilli topped with cheese, dinner platters, deluxe grilled cheeses, and more.
