Irving's two-part 4th of July celebration begins with a community parade through the historic Downtown Heritage District where spectators wave their flags as floats, marchers and custom vehicles go by. Immediately afterward, everyone heads over to Heritage Park to enjoy complimentary watermelon and patriotic music until noon. In the evening from 6 until 10 p.m., Lake Carolyn in the Las Colinas district is the site of the Fourth of July fireworks show.
Laughs by the Lake is a fun-filled show located along the shores of Lake Carolyn. Local up-and-coming comedians have the opportunity to vie for the title of Irving's Funniest Comic. It's an evening full of laughter and samplings from the food trucks.
Dragon Boating is one of the hottest growing water sports, and it's also a 2000-year old Chinese tradition. Teams line up their beautifully decorated boats and race to the finish for prizes and bragging rights. Visitors of all ages can partake in the kite-making and kiting classes. You can make a kite in class or bring your own kites to participate in the kite competitions. Lanterns of various shapes, sizes, colors and luminosity are on display for a colorful array of nighttime enjoyment.
