Museums In and Around Irving

Museums in Irving offer up a fascinating history of the region, educate and inspire visitors, and tell the stories of many early Texans. No matter where your trip is taking you, take some time to explore the numerous museums in Irving.

Spend a morning visiting the Irving Archives and Museum, which house source material detailing the history of Irving and its residents while the museum features an award-winning permanent exhibit about Irving's history as well as nationally-travelling temporary exhibitions. Next, head over to the Jackie Townsell Bear Creek Heritage Center, a facility created to honor the history of the area settled in 1850 by freed slaves. The Center is one of the finest repositories of African-American culture and heritage in Texas.

A visit to Irving wouldn’t be complete until taking in The Mustangs of Las Colinas, one of the largest equestrian sculptures in the world. Adjacent to the sculpture, is the Mustangs of Las Colinas Museum. Finally, the Ruth Paine House Museum pays homage to President John F. Kennedy and his assassination, telling the story of this meaningful location where that tragic day began.

Visitors to Irving should also make sure to spend some time exploring the immediate areas surrounding Irving. Both Fort Worth and Dallas are home to incredible museums, like the Dallas Museum of Art, located in the Dallas Arts District, now considered the largest urban arts district in the United States. At the DMA, visitors can walk through fascinating exhibits of contemporary art, historical relics, and more. Their own collection houses more than 24,000 works of art from all cultures and time periods spanning 5,000 years. Browse the gift shop or visit in the cafe while you reflect on the incredible art housed here—this museum is a sight to behold.
