Outdoor Activities in Irving

Irving’s outdoor scene is built around trails, parks, waterfront spaces, and family-friendly attractions. You can walk or bike along miles of paved pathways, spend time on the water, visit local parks, or plan a day around outdoor experiences with the family. And none of it requires that much planning.  

Trails and Parks 

Campion Trails is a great place to start. The paved trail system follows the Trinity River and has become a favorite route for walkers, runners, and cyclists. Some people come for a workout. Others just come for the fresh air. Either way, it’s a great way to spend a few hours outdoors and see parts of Irving that you might miss otherwise.  

Families love the Animal Connection Experience at Fritz Park, where kids can meet farm animals and spend time outdoors away from screens and schedules. Add in the city’s parks and open spaces, and it’s easy to find a place to spread out, explore, or simply enjoy a little time outside.  

More Ways to Enjoy the Outdoors 

The Mandalay Canal offers another side of Irving. Follow the canal through Las Colinas to Lake Carolyn, where waterfront paths, gondola rides, and time on the water make it easy to linger a little longer.  

The calendar brings its own outdoor traditions, too. Spring is bluebonnet season across Texas, and farmers markets throughout the year are a good excuse to spend a morning outside while picking up fresh produce and local goods. If you’re looking to venture beyond Irving, both the Dallas Zoo and Fort Worth Zoo are popular options.
