How to Get Around

Because of its convenient location to DFW International Airport and Dallas Love Field, Irving offers visitors an unparalleled ease of air travel by putting them within a three and half hour flight of every major metropolitan area in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

Car Travel

Irving’s location in between Dallas and Fort Worth and proximity to almost every major freeway in the Dallas/Fort Worth area makes it one of the easiest cities to navigate and visit in the US. Several highways wind their way through the city, making travel a breeze in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

Chartered and Mass Transit

On land, travelers have their choice of taxi, shuttle, rental car, limo, bus or light rail.  Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) offers visitor-friendly bus and train transportation for individual and group travelers throughout the region. The Trinity Railway Express (TRE) makes traveling from Irving to Fort Worth and Dallas practically effortless.

Visitors can travel to Irving via the Orange Line light rail system from downtown Dallas or DFW Airport.  Exit at the Las Colinas Urban Center Station, and in a matter of minutes, you can board the APT (Area Personal Transit) for any of other three route destinations covering the area’s growing residential and business community.

APT

A quick and easy way to access Irving businesses, hotels, restaurants and residences located around Las Colinas’ Lake Carolyn is the Area Personal Transit (APT) system.  The APT is a climate-controlled, on-demand people mover system covering the Las Colinas Urban Center with four passenger stations.

Gondola

For more romantic Irving transportation, make a reservation for a Venetian gondola ride and glide peacefully through the lovely waterways of the Mandalay Canal

Car Rentals

Most rental agencies are available at the airports, while other companies offer shuttle service to locations off the airports’ property. For your convenience, an Enterprise office is located inside the Irving Convention Center at 500 W. Las Colinas Blvd.  That counter can be reached at (972) 409-7073.

Taxi Cabs & Car Service

Cabs are metered at $2.25 minimum, plus $1.80 per each additional mile.  There is a fuel surcharge when gas exceeds $2/gallon and each additional passenger costs $2.  Cabs can be hailed at the airports, hotels, in the Las Colinas Urban Center, in Dallas and in Fort Worth. In other areas, it is usually necessary to call one from your location. Time to reach the Irving area from either airport is approximately 15 minutes by cab. A list of area cab companies and sedan and limo services can be found below.

Shuttles depart each destination approximately every 15 minutes.

Once at your destination in either Dallas or Fort Worth, a transfer to DART rail/bus service or The T’s transportation service allows visitors to enjoy each city’s unique attractions and events.

The Dallas Area Rapid Transportation (DART) system makes getting around the Dallas/Fort Worth area quick and efficient. The Orange Line servicing the Irving area also travels to DFW Airport, Dallas’ Love Field Airport, downtown Dallas, the Dallas Arts District, North Dallas and Plano.

With five stops in Irving proper, visitors and residents can travel to the University of Dallas, the Irving Convention Center, the Las Colinas urban and business districts and Northlake College within minutes.  Continue riding the rails to the west and the Orange Line delivers you to Terminal A at DFW Airport in less time than it takes to park in the airport’s remote parking. Head south from Irving and the Orange Line takes you to downtown Dallas in under an hour.

Transfers from the Orange Line to DART’s other light rail and bus stations expand visitor accessibility to locations such as the Dallas Zoo, White Rock Lake, Denton and the University of North Texas and even the city of Fort Worth.
