Photo Shoots

Irving/Las Colinas is an ideal location for photo shoots and is often featured in regional and national photography. The area offers countless opportunities for unique settings, including the Las Colinas urban area, the Irving Convention Center, the Mandalay Canal, several golf courses, large public sculpture pieces, and a compelling skyline.  For Las Colinas-specific location inquires and permits, call the Dallas Country Utility And Reclamation District office at 972-556-0625 or visit http://www.dcurd.org/property-use-permits/

The Irving Convention Center

The unique architecture and dramatic lines of the Irving Convention Center make this structure a favorite with still photographers.  Permission to shoot on location must be obtained from the convention center and involves acquiring a license agreement, liability insurance, and payment of a security deposit and location fee.   Fees depend on the type of shoot, i.e. commercial, wedding, etc. Contact the Irving Convention Center at 972-252-7576 for details.

The Mustangs of Las Colinas

One of the most popular areas for film/video and photo shoots is at Williams Square in Las Colinas, which features The Mustangs of Las Colinas by Robert Glen. This is the world's largest equestrian sculpture and provides a captivating physical backdrop for photographs and video. It is one of North Texas' most visited attractions.  Film, video and photo shoots must be coordinated through The Towers at Williams Square. For information about rules, rates, and other requirements, contact Mindy Melton at 972-869-5900. To view the sculpture and plaza, visit 5221 N. O'Connor Boulevard in Irving.

Mandalay Canal and Lake Carolyn

The other areas that are most frequently used productions are the canals and waterways of the Mandalay Canal and Lake Carolyn in Las Colinas. These water features are overseen by DCURD (the Dallas County Utility and Reclamation District). For a full list of fees, rules, regulations, insurance requirements, and the forms and permits needed to utilize these locations, review the Property Use Permits on the DCURD website at www.dcurd.org. Contact information for the privately-owned areas in the canal area can also be found on the website. For more information, contact DCURD at 972-556-0625.

Gondolas on Lake Carolyn

The gondolas on Lake Carolyn provide a unique setting for film, video and photo shoots. The narrow canals have some private inlets with refreshing waterfall views, and the gondolas are the only vessels that ply the waters. In addition to coordinating permits with DCURD as noted above, you will need to contact Gondola Adventures at irving@gondola.com or 866-646-2064.

Parks and Green Spaces

There are currently 43 parks with over 2,000 acres of land maintained by the City of Irving Parks and Recreation Department, which offer a wide variety of backdrops for productions including activities like picnicking, hiking, biking, fishing, swimming, canoeing and more. To review information on all Irving parks, click here. For information about shooting at any of these locations, contact the Irving Parks and Recreation Department at 972-721-2501.
