Instead of shying away from the Texas temps, we're beating the heat and taking the party to the plaza, Levy Plaza, THIS SATURDAY for DFW’s newest and soon-to-be greatest BBQ festival, Lone Star BBQ and Music. You don't want to miss this celebration of all things BARBECUE.
Three gentlemen have combined their superpowers to put this upcoming BBQ party on. Murlin Graham, marketing manager with the Toyota Music Factory, Lazaro Alvarez, race director extraordinaire of Irving Marathon Running Series and Jim Louder, owner of Nosh & Bottle.
To get you excited about Lone Star BBQ and Music, here is a quick synopsis of our chat with Graham. A fan of the “Texas Trinity,” also known as sausage, brisket and ribs.
Where did the idea for the Lone Star BBQ and Music come from?
Graham: I grew up in Lufkin, Texas, where my granny worked at a local BBQ joint called Wagon Wheel BBQ. It wasn’t anything to brag about back then but we loved going there as a family and seeing my granny. So I guess the idea was derived from my nostalgic love of Texas BBQ. It has changed over the years with the Pit Masters really elevating their styles and recipes. But I miss the old Texas-style chopped beef sandwiches from Granny.
What makes this event unique compared to other BBQ events?
Graham: Most of the BBQ Festivals around DFW include a cookoff/competition. Lone Star BBQ and Music Festival is more of a celebration of Texas BBQ. We're bringing together the "best of the best" for all to enjoy a true taste of Texas. On top of that, we have some great tribute bands and a unique venue with a great location. Levy Event Plaza in Irving/Las Colinas is one of the finest venues around for a food and music event, for sure!
What should visitors know before going?
Graham: It's going to be hot! But we're going to be chill and so will you. That's right, there will be cooling tents with cooling fans and misters. Plus, Visit Irving will be handing out iced towels, mini-fans, water and more! Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate ... and if you wanna quench your thirst with more than water, Shiner, Lone Star, Titos, Ranch 2O and more will be available for purchase. Tropic Freeze a local food truck will have lots of frozen goodies for sale to for those needing a little extra to stay cool.
Are you ready to rock?
Graham: Heck yea! We'll be cooling ya down, then turning up the heat with the "best of the best" local and regional bands to go with your "best of the best" BBQ. The line up includes a little something for everyone: Le Freak, M-80’s, Alex Aguilar, Leo Hull and the Texas Blues Machine, Faron Gilbert, Texas Flood, and Lone Star Skynyrd.
